Case Study Helps in Classroom Activities
Case studies are generally organized into themes that provide a reason for a person to obtain an education. Some of the cases contain educational themes, whereas others might be based on entertainment, health and sports. These studies also vary from school to school. It is however, the case of the school itself that determines which particular case study fits best.
The first of the examples provides an case study solution of how students can be assisted through their studies and work. This comes from a case that describes the idea of a student taking a journey to “the middle of nowhere.” This journey from one town to another is one that requires students to experience many different facets of life.
The second of the examples gives a more concrete example of what students have to face in class. Here, a teacher discusses how the students at his or her school often need a driving lesson from an experienced driver. To give an example, the drivers can provide lessons on common driving issues such as lane changes, turning and parking and also describe some specific points that require further discussion with a learner.
In the third example, a case study helps in the realization of the idea of incorporating an old-fashioned car to students’ vehicles. This could involve purchasing a one-ton, rusted and dilapidated Ford truck. The teacher provides a set of instructions to be followed by the learners so that the vehicle does not cause damage to other vehicles. The classroom usually ends up looking like a mess from the misuse of this vehicle, but is a more realistic example than some of the others.
The fourth example of a case study helps in conveying a set of specific suggestions on how to protect children against sexual predators. A teacher discusses the difficulties involved in identifying the potential victim and how to assist that individual through the process of discovering. The example includes the use of two people, each of whom will have to sit in a room together so that the actual situation can be examined.
The fifth example of a case study helps in providing more general suggestions about proper interactions between students and teachers. The teacher talks about rules that could be followed so that no one feels uncomfortable. The suggestions also extend to how to manage the situation when a situation arises where the teacher needs to have a more personal discussion with a student.
The sixth example of a case study helps in discussing the idea of giving exams for specific subjects. This is done in part to create a system for the students to learn. A student gets to take exams for subjects like science, geography and history, and one does not have to worry about passing all of them to be recognized.
The seventh example of a case study helps in determining whether certain programs are effective. For example, the results of a study show that the program of giving all students’ answers by means of telephone may not work. The teacher provides ideas on how to improve the program so that it is more effective and efficient.
The eighth example of a case study helps in communicating an idea of how organizations succeed. This might be so because of the inherent features of their structure. It might also be because of a strong leadership.
The ninth example of a case study can be used to help students understand how to negotiate with other individuals and organizations. For example, a student might be required to negotiate with his or her boss over pay. This can be successful if the person has the capacity to communicate well with others.
The tenth example of a case study is one that relates to a change in diet habits. There is a point where it may be necessary to eat more protein. In this case, the teacher discusses this with his or her students to better understand how this could help in achieving their goals.
The only problem with these case studies is that they are not usually discussed by groups of students in real life. Most often, they only happen in classrooms where everyone is together and talking about what they feel and not necessarily being able to talk about the same thing. But still, they help students to understand the concepts that they need to go through the life experiences that they have encountered.
